The epic love story tells the tale of young Nigerians Ifemelu and Obinze, whose romance is tested when Ifemelu emigrates to America to get a university education while her boyfriend winds up in London. They face the toughest decision of their lives when they are later reunited in their homeland.

A statement released by the star revealed her utter delight at adapting the acclaimed novel - which was the winner of the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction - for the silver screen.

Nigerian Author…Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
'It is such an honour to have the opportunity to bring Ms Adichie's brilliant book to the screen,' she gushes. 'Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze's stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humour and heart’.

People’s “Most Beautiful Woman” became the first African actress and Mexican citizen to win an Oscar. Nyong’o’s star continues to rise, and she appears to be choosing her projects carefully. Both she and Adichie are in the running for Personality of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards, to be held on Saturday [June 7].
